ActionBridge's Event-Driven Architecture
by Ashok Kumar

According to a recent report by Gartner Research, "...successful software-as-a-service (SaaS) deployments will not be deployed as islands of automation.  There will be multiple application scenarios where on-premise integration or interoperability with other applications will become important to support complete business processes."*

In the same research report, the Gartner analyst goes on to say that before making any SaaS technology decisions, companies need to assess their complete business process cycle in order to identify any on-premise integration or interoperability requirements and determine weather the SaaS applications can address these gaps.

Although a lot of SaaS vendors are addressing the data and process gaps, they are mostly depending on partners to provide complete integration solutions.  Nimaya's ActionBridge products focus on providing a closed loop solution for SaaS applications and data and business process integration with on-premise systems.  Nimaya's ActionBridge products enable users to easily build and deploy data mashups by integrating data in real-time from on-premise systems, SaaS applications and public Web Services.  Users build the mashups using a wizard-driven GUI and deploy them within the SaaS environment such as salesforce.com 'S-controls' and Microsoft Dynamics 'iframes'.

Nimaya's ActionBridge rules engine enables users to model complex business processes (such as a credit assessment or a churn score) using a wizard-driven GUI.  The ActionBridge rules engine also enables uses to build and deploy dynamic decision support processes such as determining customer value and churn propensity; by aggregating transactional, historical and/or third-party data in real-time and applying business rules to compute appropriate metrics.

ActionBridge has been implemented as an event driven Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) that enables processing of events in real-time.  ActionBridge can listen for events from both external and internal sources, process these events by executing associated business rules, and then kick off appropriate business processes.  For example, an event generated due to a large fluctuation in currency could trigger an arbitrage transaction or a large withdrawal event which signals higher churn propensity and therefore could result in an alert being displayed on the screen of an account executive using salesforce.com.
